Toby's First Post

Hi, I'm Toby Richkind, a volunteer here with the California Academy of Sciences, in the Digital Learning Science Viz team.

I am a junior at Lick-Wilmerding High School, and I live in San Francisco. This is my third year working at the Academy. I have always loved every subject in school, and my favorite varies from day to day, so today, I will say history! I find history hugely important, as it helps explain why our society and world function as they do. My favorite science topic, however, is probably astronomy, as it deals with and explains the incomprehensible in both a scientific and philosophical way. One of my biggest passions throughout my whole life has been acting and performance, which I love bringing to the science community to help convey certain ideas and topics in interesting and unique ways.

I really enjoy the video below (from the YouTube channel Kurzgesagt) because it uses captivating yet simple visuals to explain complex scientific theories. Furthermore, the length of the video is perfect to express a good amount of information without risking the loss of your audience's attention.
