I am interested in making a news report about the unknowns of the world and even the universe. More specifically, space and the ocean. There is so much that is unknown about these subjects, being able to research and investigate what kind of progress is being made in these areas. The great depths of the ocean still have not been charted in full depth, so the diversity of animals and wildlife and the types of landscape that will be found there could be drastically different than what is known currently. Space is another huge topic that has not been fully understood. Knowing more about what really goes on out there would be fascinating.

Some types of media that could be used in these reports could be in depth pictures of these two things, and possibly videos or recordings of different events that go on in the depths of the seas and in space.

What am I Interested in making a news report about?

I am interested in making news reports about things currently happening in the fields of biology and astronomy.

What media would you use in that "report"

I would use Writing Pictures and videos because those are three easy and basic ways to transfer information.

I am interested in making a news report about...

•  the process that the Academy goes through in order to make new exhibits and update old ones.  Who comes up with the ideas? How does each exhibit get decided upon and carried out?
• how species that are living in the same habitat in the academy interact and coexist?

In the report, I would use pictures, recordings of interviews with people involved, writing... I would be interested in making the news report into a video as well as a blog post or article.

1. What are you interested in making a "news report" about?
-I am interested in aquatic life, how each animal effects each other (including people).
-I am interested in disease (its effect on humans, animals) and what the outcome of the "outbreak" was.



2. What media would you use in that "report"?
-I would use pictures [including graphs (just maybe)], statistics, writings, and video recordings (maybe audio).

    I am interested in making  a report about some computer science and cognitive science at the academy of science. I would use pictures, videos, and writing.

Toby and Zach Invite Educators to Pitch their Digital Youth Programs at ASTC 2014

Cal Academy TechTeens Zachary and Toby will be traveling to the Association of Science and Techology Centers (ASTC) annual conference next weekend in Raleigh, North Carolina, along with our team from Youth Programs.

We asked Toby and Zach to introduce themselves and invite people to the ASTC session their are co-leading called "Youth Proof Your Program". Here's what they had to say.

The teens and myself will also be participating in another session where they are presenting a science computer game they helped create called "Mission Fishin."

How do you integrate youth into science game design in ways that support youth development, institutional objectives and the larger public? Shedd Aquarium, the Field Museum and the California Academy of Sciences will share the experiences of their adult facilitators and youth designers in science game creation.
